On 21 August 2021, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation will enter into force.
The Regulation sets out priority measures to prevent packaging waste production and reduce the final disposal of packaging waste through reuse, recycling, and recovery.
The rules determine that the responsibility for packaging that has become waste lies with the producers who place the packaged products on the market, who over-package the packaged products, manufacture or import sales packaging on the market, and the producers who rent packaging on a professional basis.
Producers should fulfill their responsibilities for packaging that has become waste individually or by joining a collective waste management system, which will manage the waste thus generated on behalf of producers.
